Sibu’s UCTS one of Malaysia’s seven beautiful campuses, says high society magazine

SIBU (May 14): State-owned University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) here has achieved another milestone, when it was named as one of seven beautiful campuses in the country by Tatler Malaysia, a prestigious high society magazine.

The other campuses are Universiti Sains Malaysia (Penang); Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (Johor Bahru); International Islamic University Malaysia (Selangor); Universiti Teknologi Petronas (Perak), University of Nottingham Malaysia (Selangor) and Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur.

UCTS vice chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid said Tatler Malaysia provides independent reports on various topics for the interest of the elite society that demands the best and has the highest standard of expectation.

“Therefore, this report on the seven beautiful campuses in Malaysia is a recognition of UCTS for having an outstanding design and majestic construction of a platinum rating green building index (GBI) campus in Sibu.

It was also not surprising that recently UCTS has been ranked 373 in the world and the top in Sarawak in the green metric ranking among universities globally, Khairuddin enthused.

“With this recognition, we hope to attract more local and International students to join us and experience a modern, green, friendly and beautiful campus like no other,” he said.

Describing UCTS, Tatler Malaysia stated: “Futuristic and sophisticated, University College of Technology Sarawak’s campus looks like it could have emerged from the set of a sci-fi film.

“It is a well-planned investment by the state government in order to bring quality high education in Sibu and Sarawak,” Khairuddin told The Borneo Post.

He added that the recent approval for UCTS to be a full fledged university is a testimony of the commitment of the university management and the leadership of the Sarawak government to provide a conducive state-of-the-art institute of higher learning not just for Malaysian students but also those from abroad.

“The university prides itself on its prestigious platinum Green Building Index rating, a testament to its sustainability and green energy initiatives. The campus here also has its very own Technology Park, the unexpected backdrop of several wedding photoshoots in years past.”
